Asthma Treatment

Did you know that most children with asthma have symptoms before they turn five years old? According to the Centers for Disease and Control, asthma is THE most common chronic lung disease in children. Approximately more than 6 million children in the United States are affected by asthma.

Poorly controlled and undiagnosed asthma in young kids can result in trips to the emergency room, hospital stays, and suffering  that many young children are unable to express. This can be very scary for the child as well as the entire family.

Celebration Pediatrics wants to help! Symptoms that suggest asthma may include wheezing, dyspnea, chest tightness, or coughing when exposed to cold air. Asthma can be induced after exercise, during respiratory infections, or after exposure to allergens and other triggers. A family history of these symptoms increases the probability of asthma, so further testing will be recommended by your doctor.

Asthma Services Include:

  • Asthma action planning
  • Asthma consultations and referrals to specialists
  • Quarterly follow up care
  • Medications

PULMONARY FUNCTION TESTING

Pulmonary function tests measure the function of the lungs to determine the causes of shortness of breath. Pulmonary function testing can confirm lung disorders including:

  • Asthma
  • Bronchitis
  • Emphysema

Pulmonary function tests will help your doctor diagnose a range of respiratory diseases. These tests are critical because most lung conditions can be treated successfully if detected early enough.

EXERCISE CHALLENGE

When you have an exercise challenge test, your breathing will be measured at rest by a spirometry test. Your breathing will then be measured after you exert yourself on a treadmill or exercise bike. An exercise challenge test will determine what effect exercise has on airflow, and any findings will need to be further reviewed.
